A hand-held shot of an early morning moon in Arizona.

I Truly Enjoy Writing Haikus

Haikus are a form of poetry. They began as long oral recitals in thirteenth-century Japan. Haikus have evolved and the rules have loosened quite a bit. But the philosophy has been thankfully preserved.

It is the focus of one selective moment in time. It is combined with colorful images, giving the reader the ability to read the complete poem in one breath. And, preferably with a sense of sudden enlightenment.

As you get to know me better, you will see how this fits my personality and focus perfectly.

I used to live in beautiful Arizona. This was before we knew my husband was dealing with a terminal degenerative brain disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

One early morning, I was watering our little garden checking on the needs of each flowering plant and shrub. In Arizona, it is best to do gardening early in the morning before it gets too hot. I think it was a small flock of birds that first captured my attention to look skyward. They were out gathering their breakfast before the sun rose too high.

I like to keep my camera battery charged and have it nearby. You never know what you might be able to capture. That is what I enjoy about photography. Moments in this life are so fleeting. With a photo, you can hold onto it for almost forever.

Just opposite of the rising sun, I happened to spot a competing bright light in the sky. It was the beautiful moon. She was like Cinderella and didn't want to end her dance in the night sky just yet. I took one hand-held shot. Got it!

Take notice of the beauty and little miracles that God reveals to each of us every day... if only we pay attention and be grateful.

Be well, be blessed,
